Alas Yousaf and Jones

SNP loyalists and apologists should rightly be squirming in embarrassment and/or fuming with outrage at Humza Yousaf’s remarks about Scotland’s cause. It seems that while he revels in talking about what an SNP administration would do once Scotland’s independence is restored, he is relying on British Labour doing the heavy lifting when it comes to getting independence restored. Just as he and his colleagues in the SNP leadership bubble have for almost a decade relied on the Tories driving up support for independence. Let’s remind ourselves how that has worked out.

For the first 10 polls following the 2014 referendum, the average support for Yes was 45.8%.

The average Yes support for the most recent 10 polls is 46.3%.

That’s an increase of a mere half a percentage point. (Or, as The National would have it, “soaring”.) Bearing in mind that the margin of error in these polls is usually ±3%, the arithmetic increase is meaningless.

The SNP may have been winning for the last ten years, but Scotland’s cause most certainly has not.

More importantly, it is plainly evident to any rational and impartial observer that the SNP leadership is content Scotland’s cause should remain becalmed in an ocean of apathy and complacency so long as the SNP can continue to benefit from using talk of independence as an electioneering device. Certainly, Humza Yousaf is not enunciating any proposals or plans for restoring Scotland’s independence when given an ideal opportunity to do so.

By Yousaf’s own account, while Scotland relies on him to get us out of this toxic Union, he himself is depending on help from the British establishment. At which point it is necessary to remind readers that exactly the same can be said of the other nominally pro-independence parties in Scotland. None of them is currently offering the people of Scotland a genuine manifesto for independence.

They all should be embarrassed. We all should be angry.

  1. When you see Dafty Y babbling about the G.E being a ” straight fight between the SNP and Tory Party ” – when anyone over the age of 5 knows the SNP’s closest rival is Labour – you know the * Party of Independence * is being led by a deceitful buffoon who will say/do ANYTHING to cling to power and NOTHING to advance the prospect of Independence .

This exchange with Nu Labour cuddly toy , Jones , is just one more example of the SNP’s cringe-making crawling to Labour ( with whom it is now almost indistinguishable ) in the forlorn hope of securing a few crumbs of meaningless agreement if/when the latter * wins * the next G.E . eg the resurrection of their GRRB idiocy ; which is clearly of far more importance to them than the trifling matter of Scotland’s Independence .
